Benjamin has recently been nominated for the mercury music prize. Ever since his cornerstone EP his music has become increasingly important to my work. I seldom listen to music when I paint but he is an exception. I have painted several paintings whilst listening to his music. It connects so well to what I am trying to achieve in my painting. I remember going to see him perform for the first time at the royal festival hall. He had an awkward but powerful presence on stage. The beautiful music allows you to become completely absorbed in the moment. Currently I am working on a painting called Wardour Woman. This piece is inspired by the music of Benjamin Clementine.
